If you follow all the instructions, 99.99 percent. One woman in a thousand will get pregnant even though they are taking the pill properly.

The usual causes of failure are missing pills, vomiting or diarrhea, or taking other medications that interfere. My doctor told me that she knew of a girl who took her pill like clockwork, but got pregnant. Turned out she was drinking a laxative tea to help her lose weight - the pill just went right through her.

It's supposed to be 99% effective. But, I was on the pill for 5 years and never missed a pill, and I got pregnant. So be careful.
