Nothing happened to it, it was and is a slogan not a reality. Pork and earmarks are the way our government works. The republicans always talk about fiscal responsibility but as you see they love to spend money on wars and the military. What's the sense in having a strong military if you can't use it? You know those five hundred dollar hammers, the reason they cost that much is that thing called "black projects", we have no idea how much money goes there. Our government no longer represents us, they represent big business, corporate welfare is killing us, not welfare to the individual. Why does Exxon-Mobil need millions in tax cuts when they are reporting twelve BILLION in profits in one quarter? The republicans will scream about welfare, but it's strange, they controlled congress for the last eleven years and all of government for the past six, so where does their welfare mentality come from? They cut social programs like a hot knife through lard so they can spend eight billion a month of this war. We need protests in the streets with hundreds of thousands of people to make our government understand we have had enough.

Eisenhower warned us . Bill Clinton declared war on the military and started base closings and the down sizing of the American military and its infrastructure .
This resulted in some conversations as to who we needed to get in office and who could be trusted to carry out the mission of creating a new war that has no end . George Bush fit the profile perfectly . An average guy with dreams of grandeur and political power . A drunken bum and failed business man plucked out of a handful of people on a list of presidential appointees .Yes with money and power and control of the media a handful of people do elect our president .
So it was time for the military to take a huge leap forward and employ millions of ordinary people with jobs and benefits they do not ever want to give up and will vote to maintain these jobs from now on .
It is in fact the take over of America by the military and those who manufacture the weapons of war without having to fire a single shot .
They are preparing for 2045 and the problems the world will be facing in that time frame . We will need a strong military able to defend against the rest of the world as it battles for land capable of producing food to feed the populations and medicines to heal the sick . We of course will be prepared and while the world is collapsing and becoming more violent towards America we will prevail .

Bill Clinton was in office for 8 years..... now with the Dems controlling the Senate and House, we can expect bigger gov't with departments for every deficiency that people refuse to resolve on their own. Oh yeah... and expect a tax hike! :-D

To be fair and impartial, political and fiscal irresponsibility exists in both parties. When you have "Pet projects" such as building bridges to nowhere and a museum dedicated to glass, we can see why so much money is wasted. Here is an example from one of my good friends...

She works in a small city association that manages the extra-curricular facilities and events of the city. This past summer, she had under-privileged kids who signed up for a week of camp and were given vouchers by the State. When going to cash in these vouchers, the Association received payment for the entire summer, not just the week that the child was actually at camp. What this demonstrates is that our tax-payer dollars are being mis-used and over-spending exists on all levels. Unfortunately, I think we are past the point of no return for small government and fiscal restraint.

Either tax and spend or just spend and go into debt like that guy on the commerical with the great life and big debt. That's the attitude on capital hill. Nothing like what they need to start doing.

It usually goes out the windows when the republicans come in.

Did you see the estimate for the war in Iraq? A minimum of 5 trillion dollars. . .

Kiss your social security goodbye.

The thing fiscal and social conservatives have in common is their belief in a strong military.

When a Democratic President "balances the budget," by down-sizing the military, some expenditures must be made.

Throw in Katrina. Add in a culture with an entitlement mentality.

And here we are.

Who knows. Paygo was supposed to be the plan, then the Red Queen decided not to use the CBO but GAO numbers. It'll be spend-spend-tax-spend. In thirty years you'll be lucky if you take home 10% of your check.

Despite the best economy in the history of the country the excesses foiusted upon us by the moderates in the White House and the Congress led to a squandering of prosperity. It will only get worse with a left skewed congress.

WTF happened to US citizen's pressuring their own State officials of what we support, and don't support. That could possibly interest them into our, opposition of such things like "pet projects" and "pork spending", and maliciously overspending, in the amounts of monies that are allocated for foreign countries. I hear you and agree with you full heatedly. But, are we doing enough as voters and citizens to place expectations from each of our respective State officials, and hold them accountable at the next election campaigning and voting.

Man, I would like to know that myself. Do you ever think WE the people can get outside this 2 party system and vote in a party that believes in small governments. We had people that tried. For instance Ralph Nader. We were all too stupid to really see his value.
