Do you agree with his decision and why?

For those who haven't heard about it, a soldier has recently refused deployment to Iraq calling the war 'illegal'. He's now facing trial and if convicted could get up to 6 years in prison.

I think that he has his good points and his bad points.
He says the following: I think that when we take an oath we, as soldiers and officers, swear to protect the constitution — with our lives as necessary — and those constitutional values and laws that make us free and make us a democracy. And when we have one branch of government that intentionally deceives another branch of government in order to authorize war, and intentionally deceives the people in order to gain that public support, that is a grave breach of our constitutional values, our laws, our checks and balances, and separation of power.

Which clearly shows that he understands that there is an oath he took when he joined the military, and morally speaking no one should have to follow orders that do not prove their necessity (specially those that involve the use of force and weapons) and he is defending his right to not do what he thinks is wrong.

I think he is starting something, and he doesn't know it yet.

I might agree with the fact that he is fighting for what he believes in.

Have not heard about this...
But, I'm going to have to say I don't agree with it. He freely enlisted into the military, not drafted. The military is here to defend the country...meaning they fight in wars and are deployed. If he didn't want that risk, then he shouldn't have joined. The paychecks come with a price on them...

No , he should be shot as a traitor to his country !!The same goes for all of the rest of the kids who signed up for the service only to get money for college . Didn't they realize that if we ever went to war that it would be the MILITARY who did the fighting !!!
How stupid are the children of today ?

I haven't heard about it, but it pisses me off when azzholes join the army, and whine about the responsibility. He knew what he was signing up for, that is his DUTY, wether he agrees with it or not, wether WE agree with it or not, he is to serve our country.

Yes i agreee because he shouldn't have to go to a war that he doesn't agree with, yet he can't get out of the military until he has served his time...kinda like prison huh?
