I like coming up with unconventional combos or tactics in the MMORPGs that I play. It makes me feel good (not arrogant, but fulfilled) to have people say "what the heck are you doing that for?" and then see the outcome and say "wow, that's cool!" If you do not play cookie-cutter standard "way you are supposed to play as a xxxx" characters, but instead come up with cool new tactics, could you share them here? Do things differently than others of your kind...what do you do? Let your glory be seen here and be an inspiration to others, if you'd like! =)

Underbenjamin: Any mmorpgs, really. World of Warcraft is what I currently play, so the focus is on that, however I'm interested in hearing ideas from any mmorpg.

Twizler: Wow, that was rude. I never knew that the chance to share some things you like to do that are different makes me scrounging around for ideas to make my character good. That said, why do you bother asking questions on here about WOW? Figure it out yourself if you are going to be so down on someone asking to share ideas. That said, I'll post a tactic or two in a few minutes so that you can steal the idea and prolly use it as your own. Also, I'm sorry that my question wasn't the standard "sum1 give me hax 4 sims" or "sum1 give me free runescape stuff cuz i'm a n00b" and instead requires a little thought to answer well. Pfft!

Seeing as I am a 60 undead mage, I will post some tactics I use for him. It seems that pretty standard is the Fire talents because they seem to do the most damage and most often people just want to grab high numbers. That's why I decided to spec as a Frost mage. It was something a bit different than what I saw most mages playing. Looking at the frost talents I saw that there are some nice combos. Combining Improved Blizzard, which slows the enemies with a talent which gives the chance to freeze the target in place for 5 seconds when hit by a chill effect became a great combo. Everything in range gets hit every second for 10 seconds. This means they get the chill effect 10 times over the duration of the spell. My party seems to like watching a group of critters all freeze in place and start dying at once. Also, it keeps agro off the priest, since they are pissed at me. I can freeze them in place with Frost Nova, Blink out of distance, and Blizzard again.

Another one that I like, although not so big, is fighting against mage critters who use fire or ice spells. I'll pull with a fire/ice spell of my own, hit my fire/ice ward, then recast. Gets me a free hit, absorbs their retaliation, and then they are dead before they can get another hit on me.

In Everquest 2 I played a Templar (a healer). I seldom used any normal healing spells...I healed almost exclusively with my reactive heal spells. People got mad at me when we started because they usually get killed when healers do that (from their experience) but when they saw that it was a very viable healing source, they quickly stopped complaining.

Also, I like playing the priest's bodyguard. I position myself just behind the priest and start sending out damage to the fight. Once the priest gets agro (if the tank has let them get all the way to the priest) I'll move in for a Frost Nova so the priest can back up. By then the tank has generally regained most agro (with myself grabbing the rest). I've had priests thank me several times for watching out for them, as it seems to be a rare thing.

I tend to go for something that most people look at as 'domestic', and put it to my advantage. For example, on runescape, I was a woodcutter, and ended up selling the expensive logs for a lot of money and/or favors and got myself in good with some smiths. They made me wicked stuff and I ended up having the best equipment someone with my combat level could have. That was forever ago, but it worked pretty well!

Also, using thief classes in some of the primarily hack-and-slashxors games? Brilliant, keeps people off-balance and money in your coffer.

This was more impressive a year ago, before a bunch of the content was released that's out now (Naxx, AQ, etc.), but seeing a Pally pull the entire skelly room in Scholo by himself, kite them all around Gandling's room, and be able to solo the full group of them. That was some good fun. ;)

Are we just talking WoW or other mmorpgs? What ones are we talking about?
