After you find the charge of each atom (positive is written first), switch them (cross) making the positives charge the negatives subscript and visa versa. Unless they are equal (i.e. +2 and a -2) then you leave it with no subscript.

You need to figure out the charge of the ions involved. then balance the charges to make the charge of the compound neutral, or 0.
