I have a Henry and it is fine. The bags last ages. A replacement pack costs around a fiver and should last you a year. The only down side is I prefer an upright for carpets but that is my choice.The best vacuum upright is the German Seebo, available from John Lewis. I have one of these and it is very good, although the bags can be pricey. It is a heavy machine as well but never goes wrong.

Dyson DC07

A Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed. This means dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, rather than in bags or on filters. So unlike other vacuums, a Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction.

Because a Dyson doesn't lose suction, less dirt gets left behind in your carpets. You might have to empty the bin more often, but if it's not in the bin, it's still in your home.

I have had both bags and bagless. I prefer the one with the disposable bags. You just take out the bag and throw it away and put in a new one. The bagless ones have filters you have to shake the dust out. Well lets put it this way I live in a climate that in winter it can be -30 degrees and I don't appreciate shaking out this dam filter. You can't shake it in the house the dust goes everywhere....and it's just dirty!! Go with the vacuum with the bags. As for the make not sure right now I am using a Bissell and I am very happy with it. The Dirt Devil is excellent too but the one with the bags . If you can afford an expensive one .....electrolux is great but very very pricey

If you're looking for the best vacuum go with a Dyson. It was recommended to me and it has been a wonderful purchase. You will be amazed at the amount of hair and dirt that it cleans up that other vacuums can't get to. And because it's bagless, you don't have to worry about buying bags. Plus, it's fun to vacuum. I went with the Animal because I have tons of hair in my house but you could probably get a cheaper one if you don't have a lot of hair to vacuum up. This helped me out a bunch:

I have had a Dyson DC03 - cheap plastic, handle broke after a fewmonths, had endless probles (although fiuxed through guarantee.....) but gave up the ghost once guarantee ran out;

then I had a Hoover The One, again, plastic crap,warning; dont get this model.....it went on fire....

I then subscribed to Which magazine and with research, my new vacuum is a Miele (with a bag), non-upright, for about the same as a Dyson/Hoover.

I had a kirby and I hated it. It was a very expensive vaccuum and in the long run it is also very expensive to fix if it ever clogs up. I paid nearly $1500.00 for mine and then had to have it repaired and it was going to cost me $500.00. The owner of the repair shop called to tell me it was done and didn't give me an estimate so i told him to keep the machine and got a rainbow. It was a costly investment but it is great because there are no bags you just put water in the tub and the water catches all of the dust it is amazing how dirty that water can be after just a few days and it makes you feel like you really accomplished something. Another great thing about it is you can put scents into the water and they smell up your whole house while you are cleaning it is great!!

i have used Henry's in the past at work but i was always to lazy to empty the bags so i couldn't tell you what they are like in that respect. If anyone tells you to get a Dyson don't, they are no better than a £70 Morphy Richards i have had 2 Dyson's and never again

Miele is by far the best, consistently above Dyson in the Which surveys and in my experience incredibly robust and very effective. The only drawback is cost - they're expensive, as are the bags. But if you want the best, and something that will last, buy a Miele.

Don't get a Dyson, the suction is very poor and they are the latest CHAV must-have accessory to go with the bling. Seriously, I have a Bosch Pro 1700 and the suction is brilliant and it works really well on any kind of floor surface, carpets, tiles.laminate
