You are neither dumb nor naive. You are a globally conscious individual who cares about others. Not so bad in my books.
What can be done? Spreading the word is necessary. But also, there needs to be pressure put on government (not just US) to do something about it.
I do have a question...open to all...without sarcasm. Bush's latest reasonings for going into Iraq was to free a country from a regime of terror. Correct? Well, isn't Darfur a country under a regime of terror? If so...why is it that Bush is not leading a charge to help Darfur the way he is so fiercely dedicated to helping the people of Iraq. And if we take it a little further...presumably, the people of Iraq are now freed from the terror with the death of Saddam. Sooooo - why is he still there, and not moving on to help the next needy, oppressed nation?
(Oil, anyone?)

No, you're not being naive. Make sure that people know about it, because it is an atrocity.
And your friends thinking that you are dumb are very wrong. You're being a world-minded person, while they're keeping their $1 so they can buy a Coke at the end of the day, instead of keeping someone alive.
Sure, it may not be much. But what is the government going to do? Our military is in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't know how many forces we'd need to apply to Darfur to keep it under control (even if we were allowed to be there), but I doubt we have the manpower to do so.

i have asked atlest two or three questions on Dafur why US was silent. I havent got proper reply from anyone. Hope, more question like this will raise awarness that a genocide was going there unabated. Some people said it right by pointing out that there is no Oil in sudan and hence america was not interested. They are right in the end, it tells how a capialist society works...

No, you are not naive at all, and there are a lot of people working to raise awareness about the violence in Darfur, like the SaveDarfur coalition. I wish there were as many people working to end the violence in Iraq, where more civilians have died, and more refugees have been created, than in Darfur.

Kudos to you, and no you are not dumb. Someone, a lot of "someones," need to care about what is happening in Darfur. If your friends think caring about starving abused people is dumb, perhaps you need new friends.

No, not at all. Good for you for turning of the TV and thinking about someone other than yourself. If you are interested in doing something, maybe you can join Amnesty International...there's lots of ways you can help out. Check this out:

Anytime you try to raise awareness, people will insult you. Your friend is uncomfortable with the truth. You just remember that it is your conscience that guides your actions- and even if it seems like a waste of time, it never is. There is ALWAYS something that can be done and it starts right with us, in our attitude towards our fellow men- just for starters! Good luck!

No it's not dumb people like you are the World's conscience without you we'd be even more selfish and violent than we are. Keep going and you will know that at least you made your voice heard.
Your friends are sick but don't be too hard on them most people are sick.

Yes its dumb
If you really want to help those people, go to your local gun store, buy a gun and ammunition. Get on a plane to Darfur and go defend them. At least the leftists in the 1930s had some guts and could walk the walk instead of talk, talk, talk. See the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.
