See last years superbowl champions Pittsburgh steelers, wild card....its because a star player or several good players can be injured throughout the season and make a real good team have a bad record the wild card gives those teams a better chance

Wild Card teams make it more exciting. Like the Pittsburgh Steelers last year who came to the playoffs as a wild card team and made it to the playoffs
