Persian achaemenid was by larger larger than the roman empire.even larger than rome was alexanders Macedonian empire. This is all based on land mass and distance stretching from point a to pint B.These are from the ancient kingdom as well.Under Darius the great the achaemenids of Persia achieved their zenith. They extended from the hindus river into bactria(Afghanistan),Sodgia(Modern day parts of Khazak,Uzbekistan,Turkmenistan,Kryzgtan all the way to modern day parts of Oman,Bahrain,U.A.E into Egypt all the way to Lybia, the entire Anatolian peninsula into northern Greece, the caucus and beyond most lands bordering the black sea including Crimea. Now for the people saying Mongolia take into account this guy its saying ancient world, The mongol empire belongs on Medieval History. Now if ya want to talk about the largest empire the Brits take that credit as they were the rulers of the largest empire rulling vast amounts of lands and islands all over the world at the zenith of their power. The mongols on their time did created the largest landmass empire on the world.Today the Russians have the largest country on earth.

Actually the ROMAN EMPIRE was-by a nose.
It was bigger than the Persian Empire, the Alexandrian Empire and the Empires of the ECOMINECUME of the second century A.D. These were the ROMAN, PARTHIAN, KUSHIAN and HAN.
It was slightly bigger than the Han. It was also slightly bigger than the SASSINIAD which sucseeded the PARTHIAN. There were empires sucseeding the Roman empire(T'ANG,ISLAMIC, MONGOL) which were bigger-but they came about in the middle ages as the ancient world ended in 476 A.D. with the fall of the Western Roman Empire. These others came after this. Also it was somewhat bigger than the Hunnish Empire of Attila(when the Roman empire was united)
I have heard that there was a Finnish Empire around the year 2,000B.C. which gradually shrank to it's smallest about 500B.C. However it is doubtful that it was as large as the Roman Empire.
Also I have vaguely heard of a people around 4,000-3,000 B.C. who were supposed to have ruled most of Asia. But this cannot be confirmed Therefore, at this time, the Roman Empire has to take the prize-till we find something bigger-in the ancient world.
Hope this helps.

The Mongol Empire was the largest contiguous land empire in history, covering over 33 million km² [1] at its peak, with an estimated population of over 100 million people. The Mongol Empire was founded by Genghis Khan in 1206, and at its height, it encompassed the majority of the territories from southeast Asia to central Europe.

After unifying the Mongol–Turkic tribes, the Empire expanded through numerous conquests throughout continental Eurasia starting with the conquests of Western Xia in north China and Khwarezmid Empire in Iran. Modern estimates suggest that as many as 30 million people died during the Mongol conquests.

During its existence, the Pax Mongolica facilitated cultural exchange and trade between the East, West, and the Middle East in the period of the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Mongol Empire was ruled by the Khagan. After the death of Ogedei Khan, it split into four parts (Yuan Dynasty, Il-Khans, Chagatai Khanate and Golden Horde), each of which was ruled by its own Khan.

It depends on how ancient you want to go.

In the Middle Ages (circa Thirteenth Century AD), it was the Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan and his family. It covered Asia from China to eastern Europe.

In more ancient times, it would be Rome, of course. It extended from Great Britain to the Sudan to the Mesopotamian valley, and circled the Mediterranean Sea.

Then, also, there's Alexander the Great's brief empire (that collapsed soon after his death at age 32), which covered an area from India to Macedonia to Egypt.

the roman empire is often seen as the greatest empire of the ancient world. At its highest point, it streched from northern africa to northern europe, egulfing the majority of the known world at the time.

The empire of the incas is also seen as one of the most significant empires of the ancient world, which covered a large section of western latin anerica.

I would have to say that the empire of the romans was the biggest, if not in size then surely in infuence.

I would say the Roman Empire at the hight of the empire but you have to think how long all the other empires lasted and how much they contributed. That only really leaves the Roman and the Han i am studing both and you cant really compare them.
