Walking and eating healthy foods is about the only thing you can do when you're pregnant. You can get on the treadmill, but it's not suggested that you run past 5 months.
Eat right, rest well, and exercise, and you should at least have an easier time losing the weight (the more muscle you have, the faster you burn fat. Unfortunately, weight lifting is not advisable when you're pregnant).
**EDIT**
The answerer above me is TOTALLY wrong. Dieting does NOT cause Down Syndrome. A chromosomial abnormality causes Down Syndrome. Grrrr.

Walk. Swim. Take pre-natal yoga classes.
Eat well. Lots of raw fruit and veg. Water in lieu of juice or milk. Minimal junk food. Don't go nuts denying yourself, though, or you'll just rebel and end up at the doughnut shop at 2am.
Note that for all the people saying "OMG! You're not supposed to lose weight while pregnant!", nobody has said it's not okay to not really gain much if you're notably overweight. If I was quite fat, I think I'd be focusing on just not gaining a great deal, rather than losing.
There are loads of guidelines for how much overweight women should gain while pregnant. Note, though, that those 'how much to gain' recommendations have varied all over the place over the years.
But, of course, if this is a 'eek -- ten extra pounds!' thing -- then, get a life and wait for a year.

it is not healthy to lose weight while pregnant at all and do not advise you try. but I would advise you to eat healhier so the weight you will be gaining will be beneficial and healthier for you and the baby. First off if you are overweight it is healthy to gain only 15 lbs, if your normal 25 lbs and if your underweight 35 lbs is what is usually recommened. any diet you do while pregnant will affect the baby so just make healthier decision like smaller meals more fruits and veggies stay away from lunch meats and white (bread, rice etc). for the time being you should concentrate on your baby and your health not your weight. moderate exercise during pregnancy is very good adn benefical just don't overdo it walking for 20 minutes each day is great, but nothing to strenuous or something that may make you fall (your balance is altered throughout the pregnancy and you ligamets stretch a lot easier so be careful). as a general rule most exercise (not all) is safe to continue if you were doing it proir to your pregnancy. But for the sake of your unborn child don't diet your baby needs all the nourishment he/she can get they have a hard enough time making it though pregnancy and delievery on their own you don't need to add to it.

Don't look for ways to lose weight. Instead eat healthy and exercise. Stay away from junk food. If you have a craving eat fruit or go on a walk. This way you won't gain as much weight. In the end these changes will make a huge difference, not only in you but your baby as well. Plus it will be easier to lose weight once your baby is born.

Dieting during pregnancy is a no no. But if you follow doctors orders and eat healthy. Cutting back on sugars found in bread, pasta and rice. Eating plenty of lean protien and lots of veggies. Along with walking. Then you will be plesantly suprised when the pregnancy is over. This is what I have done with all three of my children, and with all three I ended up being anywhere from 10-20 lbs lighter than when I got pregnant. Eating healthy is a goal we should aspire to, regardless if we are pregnant or whether we want to lose weight. Being healthy and having a healthy baby should be your main goal.

This may sound crazy, but the best way to lose weight is also the healthiest thing you can do for your baby and it is eat "more." Eating more foods from the four food groups will increase your metabolism and cause you to burn more calories and also give your baby the nutrition that it needs. I would eat four to six small meals a day and stay away from junk food. I would also suggest working out at least three times a week once you are no longer pregnant. Keep on eating 4 to 6 times a day because it will also give you energy to sustain a workout. I workout and eat all the time. If I want to gain weight with muscle, I just increase weight/decrease reps and if I just want to lose weight- I just decrease weight/increase reps but the 4- 6 meals a day are a must.

you should do yoga and pilates. You can buy a special video for either of these with exercises for pregnant woman. YOu should drink a lot of water and stay away from sugary drinks and pop. Just dropping pop will help you lose at least 10 pounds in a year. You will be fine. Take a 30 minute walk everyday to look and feel your best. good luck. and congratulations, i have been ttc for 11 months with no luck so i have read about every pregnancy and ttc book out there lol

I read someplace that dieting and trying to lose weight while you are pregnant isn't good because it can cause hypertension which we all know is harmful to the little one. Most doctors will suggest a daily walk and healthful eating but to not do anything your body isn't used to already while you are pregnant. So dont' go joining a gym now if you haven't before. You know what can be helpful though? Head to the public pool. Swimming is great to help aid circulation and stay active while pregnant. Good luck!

Doctors recommend that you do not attempt to lose weight whle pregnant. If you are overweight you should try to lose it before becoming pregnant, and if you ARE overweight going into the pregnancy then to just gain less than the recommended normal. The key to any healthy pregnancy is to eat well and make every calorie count for your baby. This will also make it easier to lose afterwards (P.S. I am seven months pregnant myself now with my sixth wonderful child, so I know what I am talking about). If you have any questions never be afraid to ASK YOUR DOCTOR!
