i got a flute today for the first time it said to clean the flute before you use it. i gusse there was suppouse to be a cleaning cloth that came with it but dinet. can i use cheesecloth instead to clean the inside??

you need to use a softer cloth or else it will scratch up the inside of the flute....I wouldn't use a glasses cloth, but use a handkerchief or cut a square out of an old t-shirt. You then have to wrap the cloth around the rod that is in the flute case and use that to clean it out. You want to do this each time after you play the flute as well to remove any condensation that will build up. This keeps the flute in great shape and will last you many years. I hope you enjoy it!

I don't know what the "official" cleaning tool is supposed to be, but I don't think a cheesecloth is going to harm anything, as long as it's clean.

I haven't heard of using a cheesecloth, but I don't think it would hurt. I recommend using a handkerchief to my students and that works very well.
