Unfortunately it has become politically corrupt and therefore meaningless today. Most of those on the New Years list are already titled enough; or earn vast and obscene sums of money; or hold some political office. There are a few that land in the laps of people in the voluntary sector, but even these are the nationally known organisations.

Until the 'top gongs' start being handed out to people like those who have spent years caring for their disabled loved ones, and people who work voluntarily for local community based causes, to name just two areas, then the system will remain worthless as far as I'm concerned.

Giving somebody a medal for doing a job they wanted to do and in the process getting paid £millions is a joke. There is nothing honourable about that. I'm talking about the likes of Mick Jagger and Fergie and now that fraud Bono. He's always telling us to give to the poor nations, why doesn't he get his hand in his pocket and help them. These types could pay over the interest on their £millions and not miss it. Most of these wasters are tax exiles and avoided giving their dues to their homeland and in my book are not worthy of a library ticket.

To Tucksie,
actually Bono gives a huge amount of money to charity, as do Elton John, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, George Michael, Madonna, Paul Simon, David Bowie, and many others.
They just don't brag about it.
