New-ish HP desktop. Neither the DVD-ROM, nor the HP CD WRITER will open. There is NO CD or DVD inside. I have tried the pinhole method, and it has the same result: light comes on, attempt to open, even slight movement. Still won't open... Any ideas?

START> MY COMPUTER, and RIGHT click on the drive with your mouse. Select "Eject" from the drop down menu. If it ejects, check that the plastic front cover for your tower isn't loose or misaligned. It is also possible that the IDE cable (the flat gray one that connects the drives to the motherboard) is loose in it's motherboard socket. If both drives quit at the same time, look for something that is common to the pair of them.
