For the past three days (early in the morning and late in the evening) I have been getting hangup calls from a toll free number on my cell. I finally called the number and without giving a company name it tells you to put in your phone number to be taken of of their list, which sounded to me like a scam. I looked up the number online and didn't find anything. Does anyone know what this is or how I can block them? Thanks.

Most times, a company uses a machine to call the same numbers over and over. this way they know the best time to call, when you will answer. this saves telemarketer time if no one is home. Chances are this is what is happening. i don't think you would have a problem puting your number in but i am not sure.

I suggest simplly not answering until it goes away.

It depends on what cell phone provider you have on whether they will block the number for you or not. Your phone might have the feature of blocking certain numbers. If it doesn't, then call your cell phone provider and explain to them the problem. Tell them that you would like to find out who the person (or company) is, and if they don't know, then just get the number blocked.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

I have had that before, them telling you to enter you number. As long as they don't ask for ANY other information except you phone number I don't see the harm. I have had to do it with the phone at work (Wal-Mart) we had telemarketers calling because they thought it was a home phone!

i dont know if verizon has it but, it happened to me (sprint) and what you have to do is go into settings or whever ever your address book options are and select members from address book only which means only the people you have stored in your address book come through when they call....other numbers that call and you do not have stored into your phone book go directly to your voicemail. hope this helps if not you might want to try and go to a verizon store.

Easy. Scammers. They call you and leave a missed call. You call them back and they put you on hold and the clock starts ticking. Like one of those sex sites. You end up paying a bomb everytime you call them and put on hold. Dont bother calling back
