How do I set my administrator password, it is blank at the moment and I need a password?

control panel - user accounts - highlight administrator - choose change...set password...

to the first answerer - you need a password to lock your account from other users and to be able to log on remotely (Remote Desktop, or, start menu - run, type 'mstsc') to windows server or win XP pro...

Generally, if you are the only person using the PC you would not want to set a password as you will have to remember it time to time.

However, password for the administrator can be set by going to Start > Control Panel.
From there click User Accounts, where you see 'or pick an account to change' click on the name that you entered for the account.
Then click on the second tab labelled 'Change my password' or click 'Create a password'

it would ask if you want to make the folders private, if you want your files NOT to be accessed by someone else select yes, else click no.

Go to control panel, click on your account and you will get a place to enter a password. Also, and this is important if you read all the posts on here asking how to get back in because they forgot their pass word, make a pass word disk using a 3 1/2" floppy. Then store it in a safe place as it will allow anyone to get onto your computer. It is to be used if you forget your password, as it will allow you to create a new pass word.
