there are so many factors to this question: are you getting enough deep sleep at night? what are you eating for breakfast and lunch? and are you exercising regularly? sleeping well at night could depend on your mattress, or whether you grind your teeth, the amount of stress in your life. what you are eating for breakfast and lunch could play a huge role. eating high sugar, less nutritious foods will make you sleepy every time. and high sugar doesn't mean sweets, it could mean white bread, enriched crackers, (like wheat thins) white pasta, that all turn to sugar quickly in your body. they give you a quick sugar rush high, and then you have the crash afterwards, that makes you very sleepy. eating a very nutritious breakfast, like an egg-white omelet and 100% whole wheat toast, or some oatmeal is a great way to start your day. and it won't give you a sugar rush. same with lunch: have a grilled chicken breast and salad with red wine vinegar and a little olive oil, or a turkey sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread. stay away from coffee or cola to keep you awake.

coffee. as long as it doesn't keep you up at night, it's ok to have a cup in the afternoon. and try eating a lighter lunch if you can (you might be already). That way, you can have a pick-me-up snack when you start to feel sleep (apple and peanut butter is a good one).
Or try getting up from your desk and walking around a bit. take some deep breaths (even better to go outside and let the fresh air wake you - especially if it's cold air!)
Good luck - I know the feeling!!

Rub your finger nails together.
I know that this sounds totally bizarre, but it cause's an increase in blood flow to your finger tips and simulates the nerves helping you to stay awake.
You could also try a quick walk in fresh air for a few minutes to clear you head and get the blood flowing.
Good luck!

Eat a lighter lunch with raw fruits and vegetables and you could try an energy drink if you are not sensitive to caffeine.

Try drinking more water, it'll help to hydrate your system a little better than a coffee fix.
