Martyrdom is a selfless act of giving of ones life for a cause and/or ones country. Suicide pertains only to the person who has decided to take their life and it is not a selfless act.

a martyr is someone who's killed because of the fact of their religious, nationwide or different ideals. Suicide would lack this style of particular reason and is performed to oneself. no person will ever be stated as a Marty for killing themselves out of melancholy or because of the fact they lost in Love. regardless of the undeniable fact that a martyr would understand that he/she will die and which would be seen as suicide, they do no longer aim for loss of life.

,If let's say a believer in a cause is caught by his enemies and tortured to death for his beliefs, that is martyrdom. When someone decides to kill himself (blow himself up) in the midst of innocent people just because he believes that his god instructed him to do so, that person commits a criminal suicide.

In martyrdom you're willing to give your life for something but you dont kill yourself, as in suicide.
