It can be...it's unlikely it will heal on its own...time for arthroscopic surgery. Recovery after that isn't so bad though. For more info go to the kneeguru.co.uk.

It doesn't have to be. It really depends upon the severity of the tear. A complete tear can take a while to recover from but not as long as, say a torn ACL. A partial meniscus tear on the other hand isn't that bad. Soreness and buckling are common with a partial tear but if you'd rather not have it repaired right away and you can live with the 'inconvenience' then you can wait. Of course like any injury if untreated, it can get worse before it gets better.

RE: Torn meniscus, will working/working make it worse? I meant to have torn meniscus surgical operation. I run approximately 7 a million/2 min miles for 3 miles the different day.. my knee hurts yet I would desire to stay in shape for my interest, is this going to make issues worse or is it merely going to be painful? i can deal with discomfort, yet no longer making it worse. I additionally carry 50lbs of ammo...

YES! It's the "gasket" in your knee. The Femur -big leg bone and Tibia/Fibula - are separated by the miniscus. It is the shock absorber between the two. A torn miniscus means the two bones will rub against each other or that piece of torn miniscus will rub against the bone.

If you have a torn miniscus you wouldn't be asking this. It can be very painful.

if you go to the hospital..and the doc says "torn ---"...its never good.
