I agree. Some people are never satisfied and will always seem to adopt a negative attitude by default without probably realising they are doing it. Sometimes it is funny (their sarcasm) but sometimes it seems a bit cruel and ....cocky. They obviously enjoy using the site so should probably lighten up and be a bit more positive. They would probably get more out of the site and more out of life.

I don't think anyone gets upset over legitimate questions that indicate the asker actually thought about the question and has a concept they don't get. What people get frustrated with is the sheer volume of students who are using Answers as an excuse not to do their own homework.

For example, a student could ask a question like "how are molarity and molality different?" and dozens of chemists would jump up and excitedly help them understand the concept. On the other hand, way too many people post "questions" like this:

If you put 0.500 g of NaCl in 100 mL of H2O,
(a) what is the molarity of the solution?
(b) what is the molality of the solution?

This is a question being asked by a student who is just copying their homework, saying "hey you people, solve it for me" and then taking the answers. Its insulting to the entire process of learning and the science of chemistry, not to mention to everyone who wants to help people learn (their teachers included). That homework isn't assigned for random reasons, its for getting an individual to move beyond "looking up" answers into being able to create them on their own.

If a student is just "verifying" answers, they should do so with their classmates (if allowed) or their own instructor (best choice). Many people get mad because "help" often IS NOT allowed by teachers on homework (it certainly won't be on your test) and the lazy asker is requesting that we, peopple who understand the subject, participate with them in academic dishonesty.

The thing that is so frustrating here is that there's always an answerer who is more into point-gaming than standing up and not in full knowledge of motive helping people cheat. Thus, people say "don't answer if you don't like the question" but it goes beyond that because someone WILL answer, and the cheater will get a reward for cheating, and no real exchange of information of learning will occur. That's why posting homework questions is so offensive.

Thank you for asking the question in a very rational manner, btw.

Most of the answers to the homework questions can be found by intelligently using a search engine and finding the answers for themselves. I mean, when I was at school you had to go to the library and know how to look for information. Then the internet came along with it's "Information Highway" and it seems they can't even be bothered to probe that nowadays. Take last night.....2 algebra questions from the same person. If he can't grasp the concept he shouldn't be asking here, he should be asking his tutor, which is what he gets well paid to do.

I don't mind answering questions for people, but I didn't get where I am today by having very simple questions answered for me by others. If the questions form part of a homework assignment then it would be nice to know I'm giving assistance to someone in this way. That's why I rather like obscure questions which make me think for myself - so go on! ask some!

I think that people forget that they don't HAVE to answer any of the questions if they don't want to. But rather than just leave the question, they like to have a go at the person who is asking. They probably just do it for the 2 points, not that it means anything. I have just come to the conclusion that you will always get some idiot trying to be smart and making you look like a waster. Ignore them and just think that the reason they don't leave a decent answer is because they're not smart enough!

What makes me not so much angry as annoyed, is when people expect me to do there homework for them,
