One side has a large P in the center and around the edge says uncirculated Philadelphia. On the other side is a sheild and has a key inside the sheild stars in a V shape and scales , around the edge says Treasury, United States Mint. I actually got this from a store when given change back. Have you ever seen or know what this is?

What you have is a token that was included with a mint set that someone bought directly from the US Mint. P for Philadelphia and D for Denver. The mint issues these sets each year. They generally consist of one example of each of the coins that are minted that year. Someone broke up a set probably to get a particular coin that had risen in value a lot more than the rest of the coins in the set and the token got passed along.

Interesting but I don't think much value.

BD in NM hit the nail on the head on this one. Seems he has beaten me out a couple of times tonight. It nice to know there are fellow numismatist out there, not just a collector of coins. Looks like he read the book before buying the coin.
