I need to find the reactants, products and subscripts. I need to find what compounds the formula represents and i need to know whether the equations are balanced.

Here are the equations
(1.) HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O
(2.) CH4 + O2 = CO2 + H2O
(3.) Mg + O2 = MgO

Please help

2 answers

HCl + NaOH >>NaCl + H(2)O

HCl & NaOH are reactants
NaCl & H(2)O are products
(2) is the subscruit
The equation is balanced.

CH(4) + O(2)>>>CO(2) + H(2)O

CH(4) + O(2) is reactants
CO(2) + H(2)O is products
This equation is not balanced.......
CH(4) +2O(2)>>>CO(2) + 2H(2)O balanced

Mg + O(2)....MgO

Mg + O(2) is reactants
MgO is product
This is not a balanced equation.

2Mg + O(2)>>>2MgO balanced

The first equation is a neutralization reaction with hydrochloric acid reacting with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium chloride and water. It is balanced as written.

The second reaction is a combustion reaction where methane reacts with oxygen gas to produce carbon dioxide and water.
CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O (balanced)

The third reaction is a combination or synthesis reaction where magnesium combines (combustion reaction) with oxygen to produce magnesium oxide.
2Mg + O2 = 2MgO (balanced)
Note: when balancing equations make sure that the same number of atoms are on each side of the equal marks.
