This isn't always true. My cousin has 4 kids.
No. 1 was 18 hrs.
No. 2 was 26 hrs.
No. 3 was 34.5 hrs
No. 4 was 1.5 hrs.
She is now going to have another in about a month. We will see how long this one takes.

No stuff like that is generally a myth they can speculate it will not take as long but that is not always true just like they say that first labors are the longest and hardest. My labor was only 14 and a half hours and I am a small woman who deliver an 8lb 5 oz baby. This last one could be the longest of all there are too many facotrs involved for anyone to know for sure how long it will take.

My first labor was over 30 hours because I stalled at 6 centimeters. My second labor was about 3 hours of active labor, although my mom says she thinks I was in labor all day and didn't know it. I'm pregnant with number 3 now and my doctor told me I might deliver a bit sooner and the labor might be quicker, that's just what my doctor said.

Would be nice if it was that easy to estimate. My first labor was 46 hours. Second was 31 hours. Third was 6 hours. They do usually get faster, but not always, and how much faster is anyone's guess.

Oooo I know this answer! I just finished my prenatal courses and they said that the first born takes approximately 12 hours to deliver (That's average! It took me 20.5 hrs) and the second born is approx 8 hours and all subsequent pregnancies can range around that as well. No the third and fourth and fifth are not normally less then the second. All pregnancies are different :) Good luck!

they sure do but not necessarly that fast and all labors are different! I had 3 babies and my second was almost as long as my first....my 3rd (7 yrs later) I had to be induced (and my water had broken) but she was born in maybe a 3rd of the time then the other 2!

Unfortunately, it's just not true that your labor time is cut in half with your second child. It MIGHT be, but it might not. Every labor is different, even for the same woman. Her third (or fourth, etc.) might be longer than her first - you just never know, and there's no way to predict it.

I got faster but that doesn't mean that it's a guarantee for everyone. I went about10 hours with my first (induced). My forth was about 3.5 hours from when my water broke to when he was born.
Good luck.
