I can't understant the argument that Americans shouldn't be forced to pay taxes, when in the constitution it clearly states (article 1, section 8) that congress has the power to "lay and collect taxes"

someone explain it to me PLEASE because i'm not getting it.

i hate to add details here but this is to r1b1c..

I AM AWARE of the fact that the Unites States of America is the name of the country, not America, but like many other nations, we refer to ourselves as AMERICANS, just like people from Iran sometimes refer to themselves as Persian and People from England sometimes refer to themselves as British. Thanks for the lesson that I didn't need, but I would like it if you answered the question i asked.

The Constitution also classifies taxes into two categories, direct and indirect. Direct taxes must be apportioned, meaning they must be equally spread among the citizens. Indirect ones aren't held to the "apportionment" standard. The 16th amendment was not legally ratified, and a Federal Judge stated said so back in 2003. Besides, the personal income taxes we pay do NOT go towards paying for our benefits. All the money they collect from personal Federal income taxes goes straight to the interest on the Federal Debt. If we were to end the personal income tax scam, we would still have the same amount of benefits because of the legal taxes levied in other ways, such as sales taxes. What about Congress' giving up its Constitutional duty to coin and print money to the Federal Reserve? The Fed is just another corporation, and is NOT a part of the US government.

It's not that they don't think we should pay taxes, it's how those taxes are computed and taken. Many people with high incomes pay a larger percentage of their income in taxes than people with lower incomes. Some of them argue that everyone should be taxed the same. However, the problem with that is that 30% of a $20,000 salary is going to hurt much more than 39% of a $1,000,000 salary. Interestingly, every society has had this type of taxation, and any attempts to flat tax have always had bad results.

The other argument, and one that has been presented recently, is that income taxes be completely obliterated and for goods and services to be taxed at the income tax level. Therefore, a set of golf clubs that used to be $500 would now cost $650 ($150 just in taxes). The argument here is that the rich would buy high-ticket items like boats and mansions and luxury cars. However, this would still hurt the poor more.

People would not be against taxes if the money was well spent and used in appropriate ways instead of wasted on foolish personal crap. I say it is my money let me spend it how I want to spend it. A big problem is not that too many people do not "pay" taxes but live off "taxes" (welfare) as one poster said but that the lower paid income earners (I hesitate to say lower classes) bear a greater burden based on income and outflow than do the wealthiest of American's. It is also sickening as a hard working American to hear of the severance packages given to CEO's that are being fired or have resigned as well as the contracts given to athletes and coaches. Where are the priorities of the American people? Two examples: 1) the CEO of Home Depot jumps ship and gets a $230 MILLION parachute (severance) package including $20 Million in cash! That is crazy!! what about the thousands of people they have working for them that really make them all the money?
2) Nick Saban leaves his $4Million per year contract with the Dolphins for a $34 Million package at Alabama.....INSANE!

Anyways....what Do I know...I am simply a working man who has opinions!

I think that many people think that the taxes are unfair-that one group pays more or less than another group. And that concept is true. One great ploy politians employ is the raising and lowering of the taxes for different groups.
And check out the taxes that you pay-the Federal Government, the state, the county, the city. I pay sales tax on everything I buy, every service used, utilities, everything. I pay the school board for someone else's children for the good of the country. I pay taxes on my personal property. I'm taxed on top of the salary I earn that is taxed. When I sell some property that I've all ready paid taxes on the net income, I'll pay capital gains on the sale of that property. Corporations pay income tax and franchise tax and on and on. And your phone bill. . .Ok sales tax, then there's all the other taxes tacked on to that. TOOO MUCH!
The tax code has become a burden to the average citizen so that to do anything more than simple taxes will cost you big bucks. I've seen companies pay hundreds and thousands of dollars to have a profession do their income tax for them. And I've seen corporations pay tens of thousands of dollars.
This just isn't a good set up. Do we need to support our country and government. Of course we do. But couldn't we have a simpler way to do it.
And then there are those who wish to live here but don't want to support the government because of their politial beliefs. They should move to a place that is more to their liking.

I'm glad you read the constitution correctly! A lot of people say the Constitution doesn't give that power to the goverment because they haven't actually read the document. Instead they subscribe to a libertine doctrine, a doctrine most people would dislike if they really looked into it.
.
Americans are basically cheap and hate paying for anything they think they should get for free. But the idea of being a free people doesn't mean getting a free ride!

I'm against unfair taxation... Sounds like something I heard in history class one day.. you know the class democrats and liberals didn't take... Also, it never states in the constitution that my tax money should pay for the people who refuse to work and support them selves, or for the food and health care for criminals.... I beleive my taxes should pay for the military to protect this country, as that is in theory, according to the consitution to role of government. Not to feed the damn hungry and heal the sick.. leave that to the Christians, and let me give to charity on my own.

US has the lowest taxes in the industrialized world. And our taxes are spent 50% for the military, 30% for interest on the debt.

People that complain about taxes are people that feel no connection to society, and are completely self absorbed.

They also tend to be racists, as their complaints are always about welfare payments, but never about corporate welfare or govt contractors, which are bigger than welfare.

Thieves are very paranoiac about somebody taking back their loot. Profit is a tax too, both on the employees and the consumers.

Inheritance, death wealth for spoiled graverobbers is given to lazy trash who spent their whole lives sponging off welfare from their parents, who took it out of the checks of working people. We produce the income, our employers take it, so our pre-tax paycheck is also take-home pay. We are given too many one-sided ideas. Anyone who complains about welfare recipients spending money on junk is a hypocrite unless he complains about what his boss spent money on instead of paying decent wages.

Most of the time it's not the taxes themselves but they way they use our money.

For instance, in my town... the same roads/freeway interchange has been under construction for about 10 years and it's never any better.
Or the people who have 8 kids and no jobs and are on welfare... the ones that are capable of working but aren't...
The lack of education in schools because they spend the money on something frivolous...

People are against "progressive" Tax Rates, not taxes. Some claim it is unfair. For example is it fair to tax joann smith 50% of her income because she makes a million a year and jane well 10% because she makes twenty thousand a year?

That is the prime argument.
