I have to supply music for a do, i had some really good playlists sorted, warm up music, some oldies for the oldies, kick *** music for the end when everyones on dance floor. But i feel the gaps between the songs (about5secs) would leave people feeling arkward waiting for the next tune. What can i do, its worse when a song fades at end which alot do. Is this why Dj s wont go out of bis.

I have done this before but using my laptop and iTunes rather than the iPod. You can alter the crossfade selection through iTunes preferences (Edit then Preferences then Playback). Tick Crossfade playback and then reduce it to 1 sec. This should reduce most of the gap time between songs however if there is a few second fade out of the song this will not remedy it. At the wedding I did no one actually noticed the gap time probably because of the influence of alcohol. The only other way is to install some professional DJing software on a laptop and mix the mp3s into each other as a DJ would with decks.

This is one reason why Dj s wont go out of busniess. You will need a mixer and 2 iPod's plus adaptors. Most clients want to see record or CD decks, if in a hall you need good big speakers and equipment, these normally cost thousands, no house equipment will quit cut-it, ive tried! lol. You need to consider may more aspects, such as lights, smoke, will you be talking on a mic getting people up. Songs should overlap, any gap and you kill the party, unless you are playing musical chairs. It takes a great deal of things to make a good party, two main things being lots of drink and a huge sound.

Get a mixer on the computer and make all the songs into one long track by mixing the ends and beginnings together....
