You can't. Have them taken in, if you really love them. A good tailor can slim the leg and waist, to fit you specifically. Find one that works with you, though. I had a pair of gorgeous sweats done, and the woman shortened them different lengths!
Just a side note, though...stop buying polyester pants! I, personally, hate synthetics. But, you know, personal opinion.

More then likely you can not. Cotton is the best shrinker as in cotton denim. Polyester blends w spandex can usually stretch very nicely but hard if not impossible to shrink take them back for the correct size

Your best bet is to exchange them for a smaller size. Or wear a belt. Or if you're really smart, have them altered to fit you. Shrinking anything made with those fabrics is nearly impossible. Spandex=expand, it's meant to stretch for the wearer.

Honestly? You don't! Those materials are impervious to shrinkage. This is why you find poly mixed with cotton so your clothing doesn't shrink. You can always take them in so that they fit you better. Most Cleaners have an alteration person. You might try that if you aren't the sewing type.

I agree with the alterations. those fabrics don't shrink and if they do there is no way to shrink width and not length. I regularly use a tailor for my clothes - find a good reputable tailor in your area. Most are very reasonable with their price. Cdn $ hemming 10.00, darts in the waist of pants - $8.00.

I'm afraid that polyester does not shrink. Perhaps you can have them altered.

i would try washing them in hot water then drying them on high heat. maybe do this more than once repeatedly. I'm not guaranteeing that they wont be shorter tho.

Oh, this is an easy question! You can buy a machine at Toys R Us called a "Shrinky Dink" and it will shrink your pants as well as your dink!
