Better check and make sure you don't have a virus. I recently found one on my computer called Web.exe that supposedly runs rampant through your RAM until you eventually can't even load a web page anymore.
There are also plenty of free programs on the net that will free up space and broken files for you. I just got one the other day that cleaned up my system processes and registry. Just do a google search on registry cleaner. They usually make your computer faster.
You might also try defragmenting your system by going into Start > Programs > Acessories > System Tools > System Defragmenter. Or depending on how long ago this problem started you might just want to do a system restore (found under the same place as Defragmenter) to a date before the problem happened.

It frequently has nothing to do with the Internet connection. Frequently this problem is related to trashware downloaded on a system. Things like the Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, AOL 9.x browsers, picture display programs, background rotation programs, ect... and other "free" programs generally take clock cycles and slow down systems. Sometimes it is a virus or spyware -- or both. If you have been downloading free stuff and not careful to clean out your system, you may likely have a build up of "trashware" on the system which will make the computer speed seem glacial.

Its always a good thing to defragment the hard drive and delete temporary Internet files. but also check and see if you have spy ware on your PC, Go to download.com and get ad-aware SE it works well and get spy bot search and destroy 1.4 i think is the latest version run them after you defragment and delete temporary Internet files and you should be in good shape for a while. to make things run faster on you PC you can take programs out of the start up menu by hitting start the hit RUN type in msconfig and click the start up tab UN check all the check marks hit enter and restart your PC . when you reboot put a check mark in the little box that comes up after reboot hit OK and your PC should run much faster.

Some antivirus software will slow down your pc, your BT broadband already has built in antivirus with it. BT broadband, runs like a dog if you install AVG or Norton software alongside it, so I would remove these, and let BT provide their free antivirus.

Install more memory (just cause I have to give you some answer or be violating the guidelines) but for a good answer, you'll have to clarify the question:
Is the computer slow or is the internet connection slow?
