Only if it's unopened with the plastic still around it. If not, you can take it to a place that buys used CD's. You probably won't get much at all for it (I got $3 for a Fall Out Boy CD that wasn't even a year old and was in perfect shape), but you'll have a couple extra dollars, and you'll be rid of it!

most shops are really picky about taking back CDs and DVDs etc because they can so easily be copied. i mean, even if there's a seal on the opening side of the cover some people open it at the hinges...maybe if it's plastic wrapped and you ask very nicely then they would take it back, but by the way you're saying "it sucks" i'm guessing you've opened and listened to it? so it could be hard to return it.
you might be lucky because it's just after Christmas, so alot of places loosen up on their returns policies because of unwanted gifts. this Guardian article includes info on HMV's policy (i'm using them as an example cause it's one of the most popular record stores and others might be similar)

http://shopping.guardian.co.uk/christmas2003/story/0,,1119701,00.html

however, note the use of "in perfect condition". this pretty much means all seals and packaging to me...

so maybe listen to it a bit more and see if it grows on you? otherwise you could try selling it on ebay or on amazon. or maybe you have a friend who you could give it to or would buy it off you/do a swap? even if you think it sucks there are probably a ton of people out there who'd like it.
hope you find a way of sorting this out :)

Not if you've already opened it.

If the store takes it back, they're idiots and deserve to go out of business because what's to stop anyone from making a regular practice of buying cds, ripping them to their computer, and returning it the next day.

I would take a stab at selling in on Amazon or at a used record store or just put it on your stoop. That's what everyone does in Brooklyn!

i attempted to return an unsightly Betty DVD with out receipt and substitute it for some thing else. I had already opened it. They advised me i'd desire to purely substitute it for the real comparable factor. So I did that. Then took the hot grotesque Betty DVD back returned with the hot receipt and have been given my a reimbursement for it. I dont understand if thats going to assist you any. yet goodluck.

Like the others said, if it's not opened. If you could return them after you've opened it, everyone would be doing it because you could then rip it to their computer, and return them all day. This isn't going to happen.

Only the store can tell you their return policy, call them and ask.
