I work a great deal in Africa and love the people there very much but the more I get to know them, the more I realise that we are different. Culture and religion is obvious but even thoughts and feelings. Is it all down to the fact that they have to fight every day to stay alive and we are spoilt and have no idea about their struggle to survive?

under the skin, except for the fat content and the size of the bones of course we are all the same...(O:seriously ,we all are people with feelings and thoughts and emotions -the color of our skin has nothing to do with that-we are good or bad not because of the color of our skin but because of the content of our heart...

Culture and society, customs, etc. make a difference, but so do experiences. Siblings turn out different just because one has an older sibling and the other doesn't, one has a more experienced set of parents, etc. Living in relative luxury vs. struggling to survive every day has to make a difference in how we see the world, how we prioritize things. what instincts are sharpened. But we all start out with the same "tools"and the same basic needs. So under the skin, we're all basically the same.

You have to think about it. The struggles they face in Africa everyday aren't realized by us Americans, struggles that us Americans face each day may seem frivolous to them. Our culture, up bringing and beliefs make us different, but when an African gets cut, they bleed red blood, so do I, so do you. When they lose a loved one, they grieve their lose, so do we. WE were all born into this world and we'll eventually die. At the heart we are all the same, underneath, we aren't really that different.

What separates us is culture, society and ideology. Underneath it all, we are the same..trying to survive in our ever changing world. Trying to connect with people so we don't feel so alone. We all pretty much want and think the same things but those thoughts are jaded by our surrounding circumstances.
