It’s just I’m a non smoker, well I tried it once when I was at school just to see what the big deal was, but that was it.

I am a smoker and I think smoking in public places should be banned - I don't see why people who do not want to smoke should inhale my cigarette smoke . I have never smoked in a train station or at a bus stop or in any public areas because I do not want to bother anyone - I smoke in the smoking area of pub or bar and if there isn't any .. I do not smoke, simple as that - My partner is a non smoker and I do not smoke in the house but on the balcony.
I quite pleased that smoking ban is happening, because that will give a choice to non-smokers to not breathe other people bad habits plus that will make me smoke even less !!!

I'm a smoker and personally, I don't smoke anywhere near a non-smoker, I respect their right to tobacco-free oxygen. I don't believe a complete ban on tobacco is realistic, humans have been smoking leaves since before we had a civilized world.

I do agree with a ban on tobacco in restaurants, public buildings, and 20 feet away from entrances to buildings, which some states have implemented. The health risks associated with tobacco is something I chose to endure, and should not affect the people around me. Smokers should have enough self-control and courtesy to not smoke in a crowd of people.

Well now, some believe that if smoking was banned their rights will be taken away. I am a non-smoker. I have tried to smoke but I end up with bronchitis or sinusitis every time I smoke. When I am around smoke, my eyes cry the entire time and they remain swollen for days. I also end up with bronchitis or sinusitis for being in a smoke filled environment. My doctor told me I am allergic to cigarette smoke and to stay away because I was always sick. I had to stop going out to clubs, I had to stay away from the smoking section in restaurants, etc.

So...yes. I think smoking should be banned from public places but people should be allowed to smoke in their own homes or cars, etc. They (smokers) need to realize they are vialating my rights and my health.

I live in Scotland where it has been banned since last March. It is great to go into a pub and not come out reeking of smoke. It has actually worked out very well - most of the pubs now have outside areas for smokers with patio heaters etc.

Smokers pay taxes (Sin Taxes) that benefit non-smokers.

Should we "Ban smoking" --- then I feel that we (non-smokers) as receivers of the tax money they pay out should forego collecting taxes on tobacco. Is it fair that they pay for sports stadiums, government buildings, and schools --- only to be banned from what they're paying for??? Some argue that society will have to pay for medical costs when they get older (statistically smokers in their 60's) however, we've been collecting this "Sin" tax since tobacco farms began ... and we as society have not cared until recently; spending their "Tabasco taxes" unwisely.

I don't want their tax money if we ban them. It is unfair.

I don't drive a car - should all cars be banned? Or red meat? Your cars pollute FAR more than my smoking ever could.

If health care costs had ANY relation to smokers then costs would have DROPPED over the last 20 years because there are fewer smokers today - 22% less.

Smoking may destroy my lungs, but being a pompous, self-righteous, hypocritical tobacco nazi will destroy your soul.

Yes, It is the only way I could quit. I have been addicted for 40 plus years to nicotine. If it was truly as bad as they all say from birth defects to every other thing including the ozone then why hasn`t it been banned? The answer is it is a money maker for government and anti smoking groups. Without it they would loose billions in taxes and anti smoking groups would loose their jobs.
I want it banned. Then I could be free of it.

I don't think smoking should be banned, even though there are no benefits from it. The main problem is that people who don't smoke sometimes suffer from second-hand smoke.

Hmm. Maybe it should just be banned in public places.
