I have these two big Haitian floor pillows. They're beautiful, but they stink! The smell is awful. It's potentially embarrassing. They're too big to fit in the washer. How can I clean them?

Thanks!

I vacuum my floor pillows, spot treat stains with upholstery cleaner and spray them with Fabreeze or Lysol Fabric Deodorizer. Now and again, I put them in a large plastic bag with some Borax which absorbs odors because the dogs like to nestle on them leaving their "doggie perfume". Then I vacuum off the excess left on the fabric.

I took mine, because it would be too heavy in the washing machine and throw the barrel out of wack, and filled my bath tub with hot water and laundry detergent, a little oxyclean, and fabric softener and let it soak in it. I came in when I could touch the water without hurting myself, about the temperature I wash dishes with, and worked the pillow like I was kneading dough to really get the soapy water in there. I rinsed with hot water in a spray from this hose we have for washing the dogs attached to a shower spout or take it in the shower for the detachable head and rinse thoroughly with hot water, wearing gloves of course so I don t cook my hands or you could probably pressure wash them to rinse. To dry I put down a few beach towels after squeezing as much water out in the tub as I can and then roll and squeeze in the towels. Once its as dry as I can get it I lay it on a rack (we have those plastic bread racks from our concession business) and let it air dry in the sun, flipping it every few hours, or if I can get it light enough I ll toss it in the dryer and pull it out every so often to detangle the cheap filling in the pillow. I like its squishyness the stuffing gives it so that s why I haven t replaced it.

You could always take the stuffing out by ripping the stitches out of a small part of a bottom corner and wash the fabric and fill it with fresh filling once the fabric is dry and then stitch the corner back together. You could learn to hide the stitching in the corner online. Youtube or something.

If you have access to a portable steam cleaner-Little Green Machine, etc. use that. I use mine on the couch cushions and it works great. Did my trucks seats as well with great success.

I would spray them with Febreeze until they are practically wet and allow them to air dry outside or you could even blow dry them.
