I am going to be adopting someone's baby who is now in jail. She has had no prenatal care yet (not because of the jail. she just went in.) and is about 7 ms. along. I am worried about health defects. Ofcourse I would pay for it.

I'm not sure that'd tell you what you want to know, and it's not without risks. So -- I don't know that you wouldn't have more problems with getting a doctor to do it than you would with the jail problem. That, and given how unpleasant it is, she might well refuse.

"There are three major risks of amnio, which include: infection, trauma and miscarriage or preterm labor. If the placenta is punctured, a significant amount of fetal blood can be transfused to the mother, which can be problematic if she begins to build up antibodies against these red blood cells. An ultrasound done during the procedure reduces this risk, but does not eliminate it...

...Remember that amnio does not assure you that all will be fine. It is limited in its ability to determine non-genetic abnormalities."

At seven months, there's really next to nothing that can be done about the sort of problems amniocentesis can pick up. An ultrasound, on the other hand, would be useful -- and given how standard that is for basic pre-natal care, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem despite the incarceration.

I'm sure if you talk to the right people you can get it done. It is health care after all and they cannot deny anyone that no matter what.

I think I'd be very concerned though with her being 7 months pregnant, no prenatal care, and in jail. Is she in jail because of something prior to pregnancy or at least something that doesn't put the baby's life in danger? Wow...

I do think what you are doing is great. It's obvious she probably wouldn't be able to care for that baby if she's landing herself in jail now.

Congrats on your baby =)

i dont know if they can do amnio. What is she in jail for? If it is drugs you might find you will have a hard time. Good on you for adopting thats fantastic. The chances for defects are not that high, but if it concerns you, you should definitely find out

A person in jail is able to have any type of medical care that is needed. All you have to do is call the right people and set up the appointment. Possibly by talking to the prison people they will do it for you.

They positioned pregnant lady and adolescents in reformatory each and every of the time and there have been many that have given delivery in reformatory. They get prenatal care whilst in there and a pediatrician on team for the infants.
