I was just wondering what would Christians do if there was undeniable proof that Jesus was gay. Seriously, would there be a mass suicide, or mass exodus from the Church, or a new found tolerance? I'm honestly curious, and I hope whoever answers actually ponders the question before answering. Thanks

That question launched this one Kitty. In my Lit class we were talking about how important it seems to be for people to lay claim to their God by assuming He/She is like them or their commonity. We went through the "What if's" of black, women, gay, etc. but gay seemed to be the one people got uncomfortable with, except for the ones that, like a few on here, used the discussion as a chance to demonstrate how little they thought of Christians. Which a few others on here seem to be validating.

Hey Sivart, very thought provoking question. I have asked myself this question in the past. I am a lesbian and a Christian. I love Jesus and recognize him as my personal saviour. Although, there is one thing in the Bible which interests me, that is, there is one particular male apostle which is always signalled out from the other apostles using the words "whom Jesus loved." Jesus was supposed to love us all, so why is this one male prophet specially signalled out as being "loved"....hmmm. I personally know Christians who would have a new found acceptance (not just tolerance) if there was irrefutable evidence that Jesus was gay, as well as those who would leave the Church, and even those (gay and straight) who would be more inclined to come back/join the Church. As a word of advice, I hope you ignore all the negative answers your question has undoubtly envoked. You seem like a very intelligent person and I hope I have in some way given you a good answer.

Check out Da Vinci's "Last Supper". IF "John" isn't a woman, he sure looks like a "girly man". So what? IF Jesus was human, his chances of being homosexual are 1 in 10 or so. It's neither good nor evil, it just is.

There are several books that cobble together data to support a contention that Jesus was a homosexual. They're no more impressive than attempts to say for sure that he was a studly hetero.

Since I'm an atheist, I don't think "Jesus" was divine at any rate, so what does it matter which way he swung? I'm more interested in whether he ever became a decent carpenter. Could he write? Why has this "great man" not left a word of his own for us to read?

I don't believe there is sufficiant evidence that Jesus actually walked and talked on this planet, anymore than Moses or Abraham and his fertile 70-sum'pin' Sarah - or the 900-year-old Methusaleh. Adam & Eve and Noah, too. There are serious questions about whether Muhammad was a real person.

I think most fundamental christians would try and suppress the "proof" or just deny it. Look at the uproar "the Da Vinci Code" caused when it came out (suggesting that Jesus was married and had a child). Some people need to believe that Christ was "perfect" (and that means straight AND celibate).

That poses an interesting train of thought. Christ was not gay, however, so it is a moot point.
It would seem that all the anti-homosexual references in the Bible toward would then not be there since that book is consistent in its message.
It would change quite a few things in current philosophies and the world would be, imo, weird.
But then, if I were in that world, I wouldn't know the difference, would I?

Actually rather irrelevant... what he preached was unrelated to one's sexual preference - most importantly, he taught his followers to love God and secondly to love his neighbour. No where in the New Testament does Jesus even get into the same-sex subject. Of course, as a young Jewish man, he would most likely have married - it would have been expected in that society.
Which raises the question of offspring.... another subject!

Jesus said love one another, but love Your God more. And listen to him in your prayers. Whatever hormones and preferences your lord gave you,you have to live with it,regardless of what your friends are saying, and you have to talk all this out in prayer. Are you a minister to have such a heavy question for all?

As a Christian, I think some would embrace the fact, smoe would deny it or try to hide it, some would leave the faith, some would just go catatonic.

But we won't have to deal with this, because as everyone knows, but few will admit, Jesus was hetro, he was hooked up with Mary Magdalyn.

I know there's freedom of speech but dude this question doesn't make sense at all...Jesus followed God and he also said who had seen him had seen God because he is the image of God. In other words he had the same point of view as God, in all things and ways.
God bans homosexuality in the Bible...Jesus does too. He was perfect in all ways and did God's will not his.

Well, first I'd try to dodge that lightening bolt that's coming out of the sky aimed at you AND me. . . . .

However, if there were undeniable proof, then fundamentalists would still use the scripture to "proove" that he really wasn't, just as they "proove" creationism. You can't argue with someone who has indisbutable faith, just as you can't argue with Bin Laden to not try to blow us all up.

I dont even think theres undeniable proof that he exists. You gotta prove that he existed first before you go further....
