US citizen never used to need a Passport to go on a cruise but since 9/11 they all do now no matter where the ship's homeport is or where the ship is going. You used to able to get on and off again with just a photo ID and proof of citizenship but now you need a government issued Passport.

Are you going on a cruise - I used to work on cruise ships in the Caribbean for 13 years and recently retired. I can tell you some cool non-touristy places to go in the Ports of call.

If you are a US citizen and traveling via crusie ship as of right now you do not need a passport. They have changed the rules regarding traveling via air to those destinations from the US, but the regulations will not change for land and sea travel until January 2008.
