job that i love which pays well

2007-01-04 07:26:30 · answer #1 · answered by who_knows 2 · 1 0

I've done it. Quit the good job for one that payed half as much. The family likes me better cause I don't come home grumpy and I enjoy getting up in the morning and going to work. If you can leave the job at the job, you have a great life outside of work and are saving piles of money and have an exit strategy after a fixed amount of time it may be worth sticking it out in order to have a better life later. The first two though, are the two critical issues that cannot be ignored

I would rather have a job I love which pays very little because I have already realized that in my life I will never make a lot of money, and I will always be a part of the lower class.

It all balances out. There are a lot of things I would do if the money was right. Would I violate my morals for all the money in the world? No. Would I struggle through a job I hated for enough money to live in a beautiful home & drive a new car & pursue the outside interests I have that fulfill me? Yes! Would I pursue my dream job at the cost of living in a cardboard box with no food? Nope. Would I do a job I loved that fulfilled me as a person, even though it meant I would struggle financially - I think I would. You just have to weigh the pros & cons...

I'm in that very dilemma right now in real life. I have job that pays VERY well, but is SO boring! It's manual labour, for one. There's no challenge, no room for advancement and we are treated like brainless kindergardeners. But, again, it pays VERY well. It's the golden handcuffs kind of deal. Lots of vacation time, great benefits and a 10 minute daily commute.

But I really want to find a job that will challenge my mind a little, where hard work is rewarded with raises and promotions and I get treated with some dignity and respect for the things I have to contribute. I worked for many years in the financial industry, but got downsized after more than a decade of service as tends to happen these days.

I kind of "lucked" into getting hired where I am. They rarely hire and it is a unionized job, so there's virtually no chance I can get fired. Laid off, yes, if there's lack of work, but not fired.

I'm taking college courses part-time to get a degree in Human Resources so that I have something to fall back on if things get slow in our plant and we get laid off.

I think I'm the only person I know who WANTS to get laid off from her job. We get great unemployment benefits and a top up from the company, so I wouldn't be much worse off than if I were working. Then I could work p/t and get experience in HR and continue to take p/t courses to finish my degree. Oh yeah, my employer pays for all our continuing educational courses as well!

I feel SO guilty complaining, when I know there are thousands out there who would love to have my job, but I just don't like it! I think I will finish my degree since my employer is paying for it, and then think about looking for my "dream" job.

Life is a paradox...

I'd take a job that I hate for a while to get ahead then switch to a lower paying job that I liked better. I would not take a job that violated my sense of morals for any amount.

I'd have the job I hate that pays well. It's only eight hours out of my day at the most so who cares if I hate it. Plus, there is no job out there that I would hate so much if it pays well.

I would shovel s**t if it paid enough. LOL THEN after I made some decent bucks I would open my own business or get some more education so I could get a job I love that paid big bucks. I can put up with anybody or anything for 8-10 hrs. a day. If it gets too much, you can always quit and go elsewhere. ...p.s....I would never quit a job because someone doesn't like me there and tries to get my "goat. I would work just to spite THEM till they quit.

I would have to say the job I hate, as I have hated many a job that I have worked, but it kept the child fed. I come from a religious base that says if you ask God for something, and God is kind enough to allow you to have what you asked for, you are responsible to treat that opportunity like it was a gift. When I got down on my knees and asked to please be given a way to care for the child I had, how then could I then complain to God that the job wasn't quite fitting my life's expectations for quality fulfillment.
