Are you serious?

In spite of all the trolls, spammers and basically useless postings, there are also hundreds, thousands that are legitimate questions, legitimate requests for help, and they do receive honest, sincere answers, I assure you.

No, Yahoo Answers is FAR from perfect, and I don't hesitate to let the people at Yahoo Abuse know about it.

I believe if you can help someone, your time is NOT wasted. You don't see enough of people helping each other. Only shootings, stabbings, etc. make the news daily. I'm sure if the newspaper men and newscasters, reporters, etc. would look more deeply at all the little things people do for one another and report that, instead of an occasional "hero" story we may not be so bitter toward each other and say "no one helps anyone anymore". They just aren't aware of all the little things going on around them. Some fools on here are just wasting their time and ours and insulting others intelligence with some of their posts, but overall it's pretty decent here.

It depends on what you use Yahoo answers for. Some waste time on asking foolish questions, others are looking for onformation. If you're seeking knowledge here, but seeking knowledge is only a waste of time, what good are schools ?
Answering questions gives typing practice. Some got help with the spelling check, which we seem to have lost.

No. Absolutely the opposite.

Think about how many people waste their time watching Gilligan's Island or Sex In The City. At least here, real people are communicating and sharing ideas.

As well, think about the amount of research you are inspired to conduct in an effort to answer a person's question. We are all learning from each other. We learn from the questions as much as from the best answers and other opinions.

I don't think we need to go back to one-way communication like radio and TV.

I don't think so. Surely some people are sometimes wasting their time here but there's also a lot of useful questions and answers, and Yahoo Answers isn't only for the USA, it's also in other countries...;)

Y!A is where Americans go to escape the pressures of every day life, It's a place where you can sit back and forget about what's bugging you for a while. The only downfall is having to leave and go back to work, the screaming kids, the complaining spouse, please don't make me leave!!

We can help one another too .Sometimes answering a question that might not get asked of us normally can trigger a creative response and result in a ripple effect that affects others too.So maybe we try a little harder to ask questions that are tough to answer and try to be as original as we can .See what happens.

Asking questions and giving answers is not a waste of time.
It is through dialog, even written dialog that we all learn.
This also gives us a format to see what others think, in the answers they give.
