I'm on Windows XP, by the way.

I've forgotten what the name of the toolbar is on the bottom right of the desktop. Anyway, I think they might be startup icons. Windows takes ages to boot up cause there are so many, most of which I don't want. (I want the programmes, but don't need the shortcuts.) How can I delete just the icons so that a million different applications don't have to start up every time I restart Windows?

It is called the System Tray, and Shari described how to get rid of them.

Depending on the programme, though, you might have to tell it you do not want it to load at startup... sometimes, the next time you use the programme, it restores itself to the startup list if you take it out (damn you, Quicktime!).

Go to Start, bottom left, and go up to run. Then type in msconfig....then a box will pop up with everything you have running. Click the ones off you don't want to start when you sign on. Follow the instructions and your done. You have to do this for everyone using the computer too.

Right click the task bar on a blank area and a menu will come up. You can tell it not to show those items in the task bar (at the right side).
