I am Egyptian but i live in England and Christmas 2007 i am going to Egypt for the first time! I am so excited and i was wondering how it is celebrated! I know it's still like another year but i'm just tooo excited!

It's true that Christmas in the U.S is more lavish and people go all out to celebrate it. But sometimes the real meaning of Christmas gets lost in the middle of everything. I used to live in Egypt, and I felt people there sometimes understood the meaning of Christmas better. Christmas in Egypt isn't celebrated in December, it's celebrated January 7th according to the coptic church. The Catholic church however celebrates Christmas on December 25th.Christians usually spend Christmas eve in the Church, and then go out and have fun Christmas day. Kids have the most fun there :)

well its not the best place for christmas u know, i mean christmas in the west is more fun, there is nothing special about celebrating that event in Egypt.
for example, in the west people keep planning for that day, shops go crazy with selling xmas related stuff...
but here in Egypt, some people still think christmas is the new year:) this is not ignorance, its just because its an arab country, with a majority of Muslims.
if wanna have fun that day in Egypt, just think of somethin wild to do, go to an exotic place, like sharm,ras mohamed, a cruise in Luxor and Aswan, places where foreigners are gathered, cause they know how to celebrate in this occasion.
also house parties are cool in xmas.
dont wanna depress you, cause u seem so excited, but its the truth.
However, i believe that if ur with a good company of friends or family, u can have fun anywhere even in the desert.
Lets just hope until then, USA troops wont be here searching for nuclear weapons or making sure there is no civil wars to assure "safety", actually we still dont know whos next yet.

well, like many other people told u most egyptians celebrate christmas in january 7 but at the same time there r some catholics that celebrate it on december 25. unfortuantely its like any other day exept that its an official vacation. on the christmas eve people go to the church then on the christmas day they met with their family and friends, spend some time with them then go back home or go hang out for the rest of the day.
for me i dont think i dont think i will celebrate christmas this year because i have an exam next day. i dont know why did they put it on january 8 and they know that its the day after christmas :(

They are the Coptic Church. The Coptic language is the closest link to the ancient Egyptian language. The arabs have done everything to eliminate Egyptian culture. You should be proud to be a part of this great Church.

and then on the 7th its like tha ctualy christmas day
