I am in my 6th week of pregnancy and my level is 240. I have to take a 2nd blood test to see if my level has either decreased or increased.

YES! It took them several weeks and about 10 blood draws/level tests to decide how far along I was. At one point they tried to tell me I was miscarrying and they were SO wrong! They finally just realized that I was so low b/c I wasn't as far along as they thought, whereas a friend had a higher than normal count b/c she had twins and they just thought she was farther along than she was until they realized there were 2 babies! Not to mention the hormone table they use overlaps w/ the next levels up so it's just an estimate of where u should be! I wouldn't worry too much, while it could indicate a problem, it could also just be normal for u or u could be in the same boat I was and not be as far along, and they always redo these tests at the beginning regardless of whether or not there was ever a problem just to monitor your progress and head off anything that might end up popping up later.

An HCG of 240 is very low. Ususally at 6 weeks it would be in the thousands. So unfortunately, it looks like you are probably going to have a miscarriage.
The other possibility is that you are not as far along as you thought.
The second blood test will give you the answer. It should be a lot hgher, if everything is all right.
Good luck.

I know one woman who was pregnant with twins, and still had low levels (too low for a regular test, had to use the one that gives the exact number) until around 3 months. So yes, it happens. Best of luck to you!
