When you apply for a position online (online application), and they ask you in for an interview, does that mean that they have already done the background/credit check? I hope so. I'm worried about my credit.

No. They haven't gathered enough information or your consent to do that yet. You will fill out more paperwork at the interview, and they will do it after the interview.

They will do it after the interview. Don't worry so much about your credit. I applied somewhere through a temp agency, got the job, was there for 3 mo's and they told me they had to do a credit check (it was at a bank...and I dont have good credit) They did the check and im still at the job. They told me that I definitely should work on my credit, but I explained to them that most of my credit debt was from when I was in college, getting all of those credit cards and not having enough money to pay it off. I also explained that I was in the process of paying it off and that I only have 3 more mo's left til I have no more debt. They more than likely will sit you down with your credit report and ask you about it, if they initially like you in the interview. Just do your best and be confident.

The do backgrounds after the initial interview. They have to see in initial interview that you fit the basic requirements for the job. Then they run the check. Think of all the money a company would lose, if they ran a check on anyone that put in an application.

It all depends on the company ... I wouldn't really worry too much ... unless it's a company like Best Buy or Circuit City [if you are in the United States] yes ... for the majority ... they do credit checks online if you submitted an online application - just remember that you are entitled to a copy of the credit check ... that is your right.

That depends upon the organization and the application.
Did you sign an affadavit stating that it was OK for them to run a background check or credit check?
If not, then they legally do not have the right to do so, until you have read & signed the necessary forms.
You can get a free copy of your credit report once a year, if you are worried about that. (See link below) MyFico.com will also provide you with your actual score for a nominal fee.
Good Luck on the prospective Job!

It depends on what type of company it is.....and if in the application that you completed on-line it said anywhere that by doing this or checking this gives the employer to consent to do a background or credit check.

Good Luck on getting the job.

Usually the background check is done after the aplication is submitted. Don't worry, the people online want as much as you do to move forward. Be honest, most things will work out.

Credit doesn't usually affect their decision unless your job deals directly with money, ie banker, accountant, etc...

hope this helps

It depends on the company, but you would be suprised at how many companies do no check at all.
