I got in a quite noisy argument with my office mate. (old nagging hag who has worked there since before the dawn of time.) My boss isn't here today, but will hear about it tomorrow, I'm sure. How can I save face?

Write it all down - with no comments on whos fault it is so you cansee it from your bosses perspective - and gain insight as to what the old hag did (and why) -
Don't beat yourself up - it happens - you don't have to quit your job... You are going to be OK
BUT....
You are gonna have to act like you are very sorry for what happened - this does not mean you are wqrong - but that you went about it wrong. You must show this by your actions when speaking with your boss and the old hag. It will make them thin you are very sincere and know that you have learned from this situation. Let them know this job means a lot to you and that you are very sorry -
THEN\
with your boss - ask him/her what is the best way to handle a situation like this for the next time.... Let him know that you have grief and that it won't happen again - but you need to know how to proceed.
As long as they both know you feel bad for how it escalated will fix most things.
Work fight are pretty normal... getting good at handling them is a lesson for you.
Its OK, I know you feel bad and worried - but You'll be fine.

Sometime you have to let it roll off your back. Well most the time that is. You need to take matters into your own hands and approach this situation in a professional manner. Yelling and screaming is not very professional. I'm sure your boss will handle it just fine when he gets back into the office. Remember your the rookie here not the old hag that is a permanent wall fixture. Sometime you need to just bite your tongue go back to your business and that is that. Live and learn is the hardest thing a person can do in life. Good luck and watch yourself closely!

Well, there are several options...
1. Quit your job before he comes back.
2. Have your office mate transferred to another office, preferably in Antartica.
3. Learn how to fly like superman and fly around the world really fast, making time go backwards. Then, once you reach the point in time just before you blew your cool, you can stop and not say anything.
4. Be a man and face up to the consequences. If your boss is an idiot, you should bit$ch him/her out as well.

Dear Boombalad:

Well by her tenure she may carry alot of weight with the boss and that may be something you might have to except. But as for now when your boss returns give your office mate the opportunity to vent herself first. Stay calm and be sincere in your thoughts with regard to what you are prepared to do if given the opportunity to explain in your own words. Do not discredit your office mate explain only what the subject matter was and when you are finish with your explaination don't be afraid to ask your boss for his advise to inable you to form a better working relationship with your co-workers and one that would benefit his business. But only do this if you are sincere otherwise it will just be a senseless exercise and you will loose your creditability as an employee. Try to remember that rivers can be crossed with bridges. So build them.

Best to you,

Write down exactly what happened so you don't forget by tomorrow. What did she do to piss you off? Just tell your boss that you know you didn't handle it properly but just explain why you got mad.

find a non-defensive explanation, be calm and let her talk first and then when she`s done you just "pick the apples" on whetever you can use your intelligence...if this is a first then you should be ok....but if you have a reputation of "pain-in-the-..." this could be a good excuse for your boss to....

you dont need to save face if you were correct. Unless she brings it up to him, im sure that your boss would be happy to do nothing about it unless he has to.
