OK, so I am a good flutist. I have signed up to go to Solo and Ensemble at Bloomington North HS in IN to do a solo and a quartet. This is special to me because in the quartet is a friend that has moved and this will be the last time I get together with her or see her.
Time: unknown yet (a.m./p.m.)

But on the same day I have to take an SAT test. (I am only thirteen.) It is because of my above average scores on the ISTEP+, the standardized state test in the grade before. It is at Southport HS in IN near Indianapolis in Southport. (duh)
Time: 8:00 - 11:45 a.m.

If you check on MapQuest, it takes about an hour to get from Southport to Bloomington, or vice versa. My greatest hope is that the time is after afternoon, around 1 or 2 p.m., so I can make it.

But if it isn't, then which should I select? My parents paid $80 for the SAT testing, and to rearrange the testing date is and extra $20. The band contest took $15.

So what's it to be?

Hmmm

The best solution is to have your band program at a convienent time so you can do both, but if that doesn't work, I'd say band contest. The SAT isn't going on your record until you're in high school, and you aren't yet. On the other hand, you're not going to see your friend again after this band contest, and you can't change the time ior date for it. Although the SAT is an important test, it's hardly, if at all, going to affect your future in school and whatnot.

Hope it works out for you!

you have plenty of time to worry about the SAT later on in life. i know how important the solo and ensemble contest is, that's one of the few opportunities that you get to compete with your own talent, and not just be part of the band. plus, you would put your quartet members in a huge bind, they'd either have to replace you or just drop the whole thing. it's totally worth the extra $20, you'll regret passing up this opportunity for something that could have been rescheduled. best of luck on the test and your solo and ensemble!

I'm 14, and before my parents made me take the SAT test 3 times!!! So, go for the band contest, because i can see this means a lot to you and you might not get another chance like that for a while.

Go to the band concert. If your parents can spend $80 to set up your SAT's at 13, they aren't suffering for another $20 to schedule another time. If you love music and you love playing the flute, than you should absolutely go to this concert - because you can go to the SAT's any time.
Also, the value of playing with your friend is far more valuable than money, especially $20. Let your parents worry about the money and you just worry about enjoying yourself with your friend and making some lovely music.

Do the band contest. It sounds like something that's very important to you. Besides, If you're only 13, you have years to take the silly SAT. I'm sure your parents will agree to pay to reschedule the test if you ask REALLY nicely.

Ok, The question is which is more important? SAT or Band Contest. Ask yourself which makes me happy and which one would i excel in more.

Its your decision

I'd say SAT. Your education needs to come first. Well that's what i'd do.
