I've always used a coil as I don't like the idea of having hormones of unatural amounts floating through my body and with the marina coil, it's isolated to just the womb.
I bled too at first, and had irregular periods, but it's been nearly a year since I've had this 1 in, (i used the copper 1s before then took it out to have a baby) and I find it the best thing ever as i only get really light periods that hardly even require a pad or I don't get them at all.
Try stick with it, everyone is different, you should let your body try get used to it before you decide.
Good luck x

I had this fitted a few years ago and last year had it chnged as is req every 5 years. I had same prob as you at first, constant bleeding then it just stopped and my periods were normal. At first you can bleed for up to 6 months I was told. Two other women I know had it and were ok. 1 is like me and gets a very light period regular and the other never has any bleeding. Being in my mid 40's I was also told that it would help through the menopause. Lucky for me. If you are that concerned you can have it removed and alternate contraception can be used. I had it fitted cause like my friends suffered with terrible periods. Good luck

I've had the coil in for about 3 years now and it has changed my life. I have some spotting each month, but nothing like the floods from before. I did have quite a bit of bleeding at the start and it settled down after about a month if I remember rightly. I guess every woman will be different on it though. If you're worried after a couple of months, go back and visit your dr and tell him/her of your feelings about it. Good luck.

Although you might have some bleeding for a while, this should die down. I have had my coil in for 3 years and I have never looked back. I no longer have periods, any pmt or cramps. Stick with it - it is well worth it in the end.

I had the coild fitted and i had nothing but problems with it. I had constant pain, heavy bleeding and side effects worse than i ever did with the pill.
I had it removed because i just couldnt cope with it. Like everyone is different you gota be either mad or have a high pain threshold to have this fitted.

I have Mirena IUD and love it. No more painful heavy periods. I spot every month, but to me it is worth it.

It can cause some women nasty problems, but you need to let it setlle a bit before you judge if its going to be OK for you;
