i agree with u...i feel sorry for those children. when i see a mom "walking" her kid i feel like going up to the child and unleashing them so that they could be free... i understand the safety of the child leash but, personaly i think some of these parents that use them r probaly being a little Lazy.. sorry but if u cant do the extra work of watching your kid or discipling them a little more so that they dont escape from u then leave them at a sitter or dont take them its alot better than humiliating your kid..i mean heck whats easier than putting a leashed harness on your child and holding on the the leash and every now & then when u feel him tugging then look up to see if they r still attached......Sorry just my HArsh and honest opinion...& yes i do have 4 children..

well in the case of adam walsh many yrs ago the guys son who now runs the americas most wanted show had a child in a split second the mom turned around at a sears store in a friggin split second the child was abducted lured etc and then found beheaded. so.. when your a mom i think they fear that if the child's hand is let go to get money out of their wallet and their not in a carriage they fear that child will wonder run get taken. i hate the leash idea i think its lazy i would rather see them in a dam carriage 1st or stroller but to the mom they think it safe. Then they haven't all heard the case the child ran away with a leash on tripped and got it stuck in the escalator of a store and the kid strangled as people were trying to get it out and meanwhile the kid is suffocating.. as no one really carries scissors or a knife to cut things in general .. so i think it sux.

When I first saw that I was laughing too! But now that I have a four year old I know why.......

I would seriously rather have my kid on a leash then lose them in a crowded mall. I know you might think I need to control my kid... NO! It's not that... it's either they're 4 years old in a stroller or 4 years old on a leash. Some kids don't like to hold your hand the whole time walking in the mall.. some kids like to run off when they see a nice toy and then you end up losing them.

If you don't have a kid already... you should try it. Go to a busy mall with them.

I wouldn't use them, but I could see why parents do, especially at amusement parks. Your child has more freedom to move but they cannot "run" off all of a sudden. It's a protection thing. To use them all the time I'd say is very unhealthy but once in awhile may not be a bad idea. Yah i laugh too.

I assume everyone else who answered this doesn't have kids who like to wander off and get lost a lot. Instead of seeing the pet analogy when you see parents with children in a harness, why can't you see a parent who loves their child and doesn't want to lose them in a crowd or see them run on to the street or get snatched by some creep?

Maybe to keep them safe and give them some freedom at the same time. If allowed to roam on their own, they may end up in front of a car, but at the same time, children need to be allowed to explore at their own pace. Don't be so judgmental of the way others raise their children unless yours have grown up to be Nobel winners. Even then I would watch what I say.

Hard to say since I have never used one and never will. Maybe too lazy to keep a watchful eye on the child or too busy? I don't know. I do know I agree with you.... can't be healthy.

i think the parents do this because the child likes to run around so when they have the leash the parents could control them
