Dude I thought I was the only one. Its cuz us real people just dont give a **** what other people think. Plus they gotta follow the crowd wherever it goes. We pave our own way.

I think some people equate material things with happiness as if having the biggest house or the most expensive car means those people are happier with themselves and their lives. I watch tv and see shows where people are held in higher regard because of how many things they possess and/or how much they are worth. I just saw a tv show advertised where a woman said a necklace cost $15k and did her friend like it? I was amazed at such a question. First of all, when did it become okay to discuss what things cost? And secondly, I see no reason to waste money on things like that. I can think of a million good things that $15k can do. No way would I blow that on a stupid necklace. I guess I'd rather be poor in pocket and truly happy in heart if I had to choose. But luckily, I do fine financially and feel no need to flaunt it just for show.

The fake ones that irritate me the most are women that brag to other women about what a wonderful husband they have. Their husband helps clean, buys grocery's, brings home restaurant meals daily and gives them any thing their heart desires. She has everyone in the group saying how lucky she is and why can't I have a husband like that. I am the one in the group that is not envious because I know she and her daughter have called the police numerous times on him for abuse. I know this because she has told me so why the fake fairy tale? She is looking at me when she is bragging about him and it makes me sick that these other women are wanting her prize. I wish she would save it until I am not present I can understand she needs to do this to make herself feel better but why in front of me when I know the truth about him. So the fakers that make up fairytale lives to me are worse than people with money flaunting it.

Have you ever seen MTV's My Super Sweet 16? That makes me so sad every time is see it. Parents spending $25,000 to $100,000 on a party. And most of them are the most disgusting, spoiled brats i have ever had the displeasure to lay eyes on. Making entrances by helicopter, and changing their outfits 6 times because (that's what celebrities do) Its there parents responsibility to raise them with a value and respect for money and that it has to be earned. There parents hand them Cars that cost more than some peoples houses. If this is a reflection of the youth of today i weep for all of us. They are all about what the latest Gucci bag is and what car there daddy will by them. I agree with you if you have it you don't have to flaunt it. The may have the money and possessions but the certainly don't have the manners or the class to go with it.

Some feel they don't belong. Some want to be like others and don't mind pretending to be someone or something else. I guess it varies from person to person. I'd guess people like that are less happy with their life than those who feel free to act like themselves. But I'd really be the last to know..... Seeing as I hate conforming.... Ah well. Some people who pretend to be someone they're not are more successfully financially in life, I suppose, as they are considered more "respectable" by the others who conform to society's "rules".

Ok, now wouldn't the world be a really, really boring place if everyone was the same? "Fake" people give people like you something to complain and comment about! I don't know about "most" people, as you say, but I think you find what you are looking for. If you are out there looking for so-called "fake" people, then that is exactly what you'll most likely find!!
I am not criticizing you, by the way, just trying to get you to see another angle!!

People in our society are brought up to believe if they are different they won't be accepted, and it is out of that fear that they mold themselves to the norm, which is not individual at all.

Because some people aren't raised in a way that allows them to think for themselves. It's silly.

The main reason society is soo fake, is because of its own insecurities. You always want what you can't have. So, you're envious, until you get that. But, after you got it, you don't want it anymore, or you no longer feel like you need it.

You just answered your question. It makes them feel better. It doesn't bother me. If they need to show off then that's their deal. I'm just glad I don't have to constantly worry every day about what other people think of me. Seeing people like that just reminds me that my self esteem isn't so bad.
