I really didn't mean to, I just need to look at a question and see how this one person did it. My homeroom teacher caught me and told my math teacher. I ended up getting a zero and same with my friend who I copied it from...I just feel horrible. I don't wanna tell my parents but I don't know what to do at this point. I have a zero but, that's not what I care about. I just want to know how to gain my realiability back from my teacher.

You could write your teacher a letter explaining what happened and that you're very sorry. Explain that you were just trying to understand how do do a problem and that it will never happen again. The only way to regain trust is to NOT let it happen again.

I can definitely relate to you. I've had several students who just want to take a peek at another student's work to help explain or clarify things when they're lost or confused.

Now it all depends on the situation. If it's something that I'll be grading, then YES, that can be considered cheating because you're looking at another's answer, getting their explanation, and possibly copying it, and then submitting it as your work.

But if it's an exercise that won't be graded or a group exercise, then I wouldn't consider it cheating because the purpose is to help clarify and learn from each other.

Now your homeroom teacher, not knowing the situation with your math teachers, did what he or she felt was the right thing. It looked like cheating, so it was reported as such.

I would suggest talking to your math teacher and explain your situation and why you were looking at it. Whether your math teacher will remove that zero is up to him or her, but my guess would be NO.

Using your fellow classmates and friends is fine and a good thing, but you shouldn't look at their answers because that can definitely be taken as cheating. Their explaining something similar is OK, or turning to your teacher for help is also OK, but the exact problem that's being graded is not.

I would also suggest telling your parents what happened, because that zero will hurt your final grade. You can tell them that you didn't mean to cheat, and didn't think you were, but rather that you were a little confused and were asking for help, not the answer.

If you actually asked the person to show you and didn't just look over at their paper, then you should tell the teacher that you just had some trouble with the problem and needed help. Giving you a zero sounds kind of extreme especially since schools now try to teach students to work together (as it often is in the real world). If this doesn't work, I would tell your parents the same story and get them to talk to the teacher or the principal.

You just tell your teacher that your freind was trying to explain it to you, and you couldn't understand it and they were getting kinda agrivated so they just showed you one of theirs as an exemple. And you Didn't acctauly know that was cheating you thought it was a form of tutoring so you look at how they did it and you didn't copier the answer you just wanted to see the process, then say somthing along the lines of I don't mind If you give me a zero but I would really appricate it if you just saw this as a honest mistake that will not happen again because now I know that is cheating and I did not before.

From now on you are going to have to be honest and do your own work. The purpose for homework is to promote constructive thinking and learn. When you don't do the work you don't really learn anything. There is an old saying," Give a man a fish and feed him today. Teach a man to fish and feed him for life. I hope this helps you understand what you must do.

Sad that you can talk to strangers easier than your own parents. The big problem here is that you have a poor relstionship with your parents. Go to them. Be honest. Take their advice and discipline. Try to be a better student and daughter after this day.
