It is a cable manufactured out of glass fibers. Fiber Optics, is the type of cable used to deliver your internet at a higher speed then normal cable. Its usually the cable running from a wall jack to your modem or router.

Fiber optics is a wire with many strands of a material that 'conducts light' easily. At one end of the wire that is set up, a device takes binary information and turns it into pulses of light that are decoded back into binary information at the other end. Normal cable works the same way except it uses pulses of electricity.

fiber is the fastest link on the internet right now. telecommunications like microwave or copper are rapidly being replaced by fiber, some fiber nodes can handle up to 35,000 different transmissions.
