Hi Stanley nice to see you again. The Core 2 Duos are the fastest processors out right now, as all benchmarks out there will tell you. Now some AMD people will admit this fact, but still tell you the AMD is the choice because they are "better" for gaming. Well as I have said many time on here, fastest is fastest, whether you are multitasking, gaming, surfing the net, playing solitaire, whatever, fastest is fastest. Hence, go with the Core 2 Duo.

The Athlon 64 is a single core. The Athlon 64x2 is a dual core.
It seems this is better for gaming and gives more bang for the buck.
For multitasking etc, the Intel Core2Duo appears to be the favorite.
I much prefer AMD chips to Intel dollar for dollar.
A dual core is not necessary for gaming, at least not yet, but is probably going to be an advantage with some of the new games on the horizon.

I would say Intel Core 2 Duo because I don't believe that the Athlon 64 is dual-core whereas the Intel is.

I would recommend the Intel, but there are also AMD dual cores.
I've used a Core 2 Duo E6300 once and was very impressed by the speed. But for a gaming computer you need also a good graphics card and a lot RAM.
