I would think a large grocery store would carry them.

Try going to a small, family-owned good old fashioned hardware store. Another idea would be to buy a jar of Pasta Sauce. Some brands are actual mason jars!

I buy Mason Jars every year and I find them always at Vons, Ralphs or Albertsons. If you only need one jar you will probably find one at a Thrift store.

Try looking for home-made Amish made jellies and jams. These are usually packaged in a mason jar covered with a piece of calico. You will, however, need to consume the contents before you use it.
They are usually found with the canning spices in grocery stores during canning season(summer/fall).

RE:

I've looked at Wal-Mart, Target, Michael's and Jo-Anne's with no luck. Amazon has them in cases, but I only need 1 jar. Does anyone know of another store that carries them? (I'm in the San Diego area). Thanks!

Our Wal-mart does, weird...try going to an antique/thrift store or a Goodwill, they always have tons of old dishes and things like that.

I don't know the answer, but may I ask, why do you need just one mason jar?
