I'm going to the doctors today because they're going to tell me the results of some test I had to take. I havn't had my period in about 8 months, and so they were talking about suggesting birth control. Should I take it? What are the good and bad sides of taking it? (I'm 14 and I'm not sexually active)

You just do what ever the dr tells you to as he/she are the ones that will be able to help you. Ask the drs what kind of side affects to look out for (if any) .

This happened to me when I was 16 and it was because I was malnourished. I had a strict diet to go on and they put me on the pill. Not only does it help regulate but it helps with cramps. When you haven't had your period in a few months the cramps are horrendous the first month or two! I've seen people gain weight lose weight or grow bigger boobs. There is a higher risk of blood clots, and even higher if you smoke. The decision is yours. If you don't feel comfortable, see if there is an alternative you can try before they put you on the pill. You can always go on it later in life if you wont/need to.
Good Luck!

Be careful. The down side is that hormones can increase breast cancer risk. The upside is that it can possibly correct your problem. I suggest you find out the results of your tests first, find out all your options, and seek another opinion before taking any action. There are even online doctors who will give free expert opinions once you have all the information (detailed) from your test results. Make sure you get a copy of them and have someone with you to take notes on options. Chances are you will be to "close to the topic" to focus clearly on everything the doctor says.

in cases where you doubt the doctor's prescription, it is best that you visit another doctor or two more doctors (better still) to seek more medical solutions. there might be better ways instead of birth control pills. i'm sure they have major side effects, maybe not in the near future, but when you become an adult, it may affect you having a baby.

we're talking about your womb here! it's serious business so see a few other doctors for their opinions first before coming to a conclusion!

take care =)

As long as you dont smoke the pill can be a good thing, it will make your period regular and it is supposed to help with breakouts, I was put on it at 14 and stayed on it till for about 5 years.

Birth control pills may be usefull to regulate your periods. It is important for a female to flush out each month.

The pills may cuase blood clots, and other medical issues that I am not too familiar with. Ive known girls to be on it forever and been fine.

Good luck to you.

it depends....if you really want to get your period everymonth (you are nuts if you do! =0)) then go ahead and take it. If not, and your dr. says its ok to not have your period, then don't take it. The hormones it the pill can really mess with you. Sometimes they don't, but when they do...man do they ever!! So it is really up to you if you want to take it. Chances are you are going to need it someday anyways...so go for it!!
