i've heard that there's a clocktower that has an awesome lookout point, or somewhere near the water you can see a good shot of the bridge.

I like the look of SF's skyline at dusk from the peak in Tilden Park.

The clocktower is called the Campanile. It's in the middle of campus, and you can go up to the top for a couple bucks. If you just stand on the ground by the clock tower, there's a clear view of the city as well. There are actually rules that they have to maintain a clear line of sight from this point, but the fog sometimes doesn't cooperate.

You mean the Campanille? Anywhere pretty high up is a good bet. And yeah, down by the Marina, you can see across the Bay. It's next to the Bay Bridge which is a lot uglier than the Golden Gate Bridge, especially since it's under construction right now.

A perfect place to get a good view of the city would be the top deck of the Alta Bates Hospital Parkinglot. We were just there a couple of days ago to visit a church member and we noticed that you could see all the way down to SFO (yes it was a clear day) and turning to the right we could see part of Sausalito.
